Nigeria has 85 million people without reliable electricity, and the Electricity Act 2023 has, for the first time, opened a clear permit pathway for solar mini-grids in the 100kW–1MW range. The Rural Electrification Agency is deploying ~USD 750M in subsidies through 2027. The opportunity is large and time-bound, and it favours operators with both regulatory literacy and proven engineering. Common Watt brings the former; we are looking for partners who bring the latter.
Three partnership structures.
Build-Operate-Transfer JV
Partner builds and operates Year 1 demonstrator sites; Common Watt assumes operations from Year 2. Cleanest for partners with existing African capacity.
Technology + Licence
Partner provides system design, BMS firmware, and BOM specification; Common Watt holds the licence, customer contracts, and operations. Best fit for design-led consultancies.
Equity-anchored co-development
Partner takes 20–30% equity in the Common Watt Nigerian SPV in return for technology and a CAPEX commitment. Most aligned long-term, most demanding to negotiate.
